Bio

Iason Svoronos-Kanavas is a Software Engineer in Audio @ JOYNEXT, and is set to be awarded a Master of Science by Research in Computer Science and Informatics from the Applied Psychoacoustics Lab (APL), School of Computing & Engineering, University of Huddersfield, UK, with only his thesis review pending. He has a background in sound technology (BSc, Ionian University, GR) and sonification, the process of mapping data onto non-speech sound for the purpose of enhancing perception and understanding.

His MSc research project, supervised by Prof. Hyunkook Lee, focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of a proposed Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) model. The evaluation specifically focuses on the impact of applying different frequency band modes (UN R138) to the model on perceived annoyance. Additionally, the project investigates the effects of audiovisual simulations in the evaluation of AVAS, comparing these with audio-only testing to assess differences in annoyance perception. The thesis will be published under the title: Exploring the Influence of Frequency Components in Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems for Electric Vehicles on Annoyance Perception. Read more.
